Lubbock Figure Drawing Group

I started organizing the Lubbock Figure Drawing Group this month. We meet every Wednesday from 6-9pm and alternate from figure drawing to portraits. We have new topics every week to discuss and learn from in order to improve our sketching.

Last 2 sessions have covered the "Secret Squint" and Loomis' book, Figure Drawing for All It's worth. Next week we're going to start looking at Loomis' book, Drawing the Head and Hands.

Future topics include, edges, transitions, color temperature, flow, and tons more.

Facebook Group is under 'Lubbock Figure Drawing Group'.

If you get a chance come by, it's been lots of fun so far. We will be moving to the LHUCA Graffiti building starting on September 1st.

The Lubbock Figure Drawing Group went down to the Downtown Art Market at the Tornado gallery and drew Casey today. If you haven't been to the DAM, if you're in Lubbock stop by some time, it's a great farmers/art communal market.

It was hot, but we had a great time. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and all who showed up. This was our last session of the day, 1 hour pose.

Another Orange Set

I tried a red ground on this one. It makes the shadows of the oranges come out better and adds to the overall color harmony.

I had fun forming the oranges and feel like my values are getting better. On to the next.

Stayed up late doing this one. Loose yet defined, it's headed where I'd like to take it. Like the values and color temps but I find as soon as I concentrate on those two things, I start to lose my design.

Next chance I get, I'm going to try drawing first and then paint and see if I can straighten out my values and design before I hit the color.

Looking forward to my new start in updating this blog. Hope to have many more paintings to come in the future.

I need to try to shoot for more color harmony and probably a little less Alizarin.

These Things take forever

Man! Color charts take forever to do. I'm glad I'm done with these 10, not sure if I'm going to tackle the remaining 8 anytime soon. The ones completed are, Cad Lemon Yellow, Cad Yellow Pale, Transparent Oxide Red, Cad Orange, Cad Red, Aliziran Crimson, Opera, Diox Violet, Ultramarine Blue, & Thao Green.

Here are some drawings I did at the Weekend with the Master's last weekend in Susan Lyon's figure drawing class.

It was a great event. I got to meet lots of great artists and see how they paint. Jeremy Lipking, David Leffel, Frank Serrano, Scott Burdick, Scott Christensen, Skip Whitcomb, to name a few.
